HFS Architects programmed and designed the Kauri Sue Hamilton School for Students with Disabilities for the Jordan School District. This school provides special education and life skills training to students with severe physical and mental disabilities between the ages of 3 months to 22 years.
There were many special requirements that needed to be taken into account in design for this school. Some of the design considerations included exterior heated slabs to assist mobility during the long winter months and state of the art therapy sensory rooms.
A two-story atrium provides an abundance of natural light. In addition to classrooms, a therapy treatment swimming pool, fully functional commercial kitchen and dining facility, gymnasium and on-site medical clinic were included.
